"I was alone without a watch, and nobody around"

I joined cross country in the beginning of my sophomore year to bulk up stamina and leg muscles for spring season of badminton. on the first day of practice, which was a week before school starting, the team was sent to run to a weird place that was about six miles long. the newbies were told to stop after the three mile, but i didn't know where to end. I kept on running the trail, I was also alone without a watch and there was nobody around. luckily a mile later, I found some other newbie from the team and we climbed a fence over to a neighborhood and ran back to school. by the time we got back, it was 6pm. I was so upset that the coaches didn't bother to look for us and that we could have been stranded. I told my friend that was in Thailand the story and asked him if I should quit the team. he told me to keep going to practice until he returned so we could run together. pushing through the first week of practice led me into meeting the most positive and motivating people I know. I almost didn't do cross country.
