"I had to get a spinal fusion to correct my scoliosis"

This is my I almost didn't run cross country story. So I don't even remember how I got the idea to run cross country, but my middle school had a running club and I had participated in it all three years so I guess I thought why not? But in October of my 8th grade year, I had to get a spinal fusion to correct my scoliosis and I couldn't do any kinds of sports for six months. I lost any endurance I had built up and I had to adjust to my now straight back. I didn't really think getting back into exercising would be that big a deal but boy was I wrong. I showed up the first day of tryouts not having a clue what to expect and I was not at all prepared. I was in a lot of pain but my coach encouraged me to give it at least two weeks. I was very tempted to quit but my teammates really helped me stick with it and I'm so glad I did. We're a very tight knit team and I've made friendships that will last a long time.
