In the eyes of diversity, the team became a family.

I thought it'd be nice to tell you my story of how I almost didn't run cross country. So my 7th grade year I signed up for xc because I couldn't play soccer due to my small size and fear of being pushed and stepped on. I had no friends or anyone I knew on the team but did it anyway. I continued with it up until 10th grade. My times started getting slower and the people I was friends with on the team had graduated and it was back to square one. I was thinking of quitting. But then my coach's wife died and the team felt like a family for the first time. We all attended the wake and funeral and it made us grow stronger as a team. I became so close with so many people. Sectionals came, and my 5k time improved by a whole minute and 24 seconds because I said I was running for her (my coach's late wife). The girl's team ended up coming 3rd in sectionals and winning the league meet championships. Ever since then, I haven't doubted doing xc because it's the best thing that's ever happened to me
