The Last Mile

In that last grueling mile, when your legs are burning and you feel like collapsing and you’re hanging on for dear life, it’s not because you went out too hard. It’s not because you set your goals too high or, truthfully, you don’t really belong as a runner. No, it’s because the race has begun. The race begins when your legs are aching and your will is breaking. When you feel like you can’t go on, the race has started. It is a battle against body and soul, between heart and mind. Running is an internal battle and races are not won with unwavering endurance or tremendous foot speed, but instead with an unbreakable mentality deep within your soul that will rise up and say, “I will not give in,” every time your mind says otherwise.
